Hampstead Heath villa

Nestled in a beautiful Victorian villa, this Hampstead kitchen epitomises discreet luxury, a minimal, practical space full of elegant detail. With the lush green garden a focal point, the rear of the house has been expanded as part of a larger renovation project on the property. Making room for cosy, soft seating and a bright informal dining area, the extension takes full advantage of the verdant exterior views and abundance of natural light flooding in through newly installed oversized glazing.

With soaring 3.1-meter-high ceilings, the kitchen boasts grand proportions. In response, Uncommon Projects have created a design that maximises this generous footprint whilst ensuring the room feels comfortable and intimate. A space fit for daily family life. Full-height cabinetry, cleverly aligned along one side of the room, houses an oversized fridge, freezer, as well as functional broom and pantry cupboards, everything within easy reach. An asymmetric configuration lends this storage wall a solid sense of identity, its practical end bookcase area marking it as a multifunctional unit.

Opposite, a seamless 5.2-meter stretch of base and wall cabinetry surround the sink. An airy arrangement revealing the full scale of the ceiling height, wall hung sliding door cabinetry provides a platform for artwork and ceramics, an ever-changing gallery space lit from above and below.

At the heart of it all - a giant 3.2m long island scaled according to the room. The star of the show is the rare Italian marble adorning the countertops, its natural beauty taking centre stage against an understated backdrop. Uncommon Projects visited multiple stone yards with the owners in order to source the perfect marble for this scheme. A rare Bianco Fantastico emerged the winner, its prominent green tones echoing the leafy garden beyond, while dark red veins call to the deep brown cabinet doors, subtle, complementary shades unifying the overall scheme.
