Barnes

Having lived in their semi-detached Victorian home for seven years, our clients had plenty of time to dream about how they would transform their home. The house had never been extended before, the original kitchen was in the dark and narrow rear return and was quite cut off from the large garden. Both are keen cooks, and with a young family they wanted a much larger kitchen and dining room. This would give them the space to spend time as a family, entertain, and take full advantage of their beautiful garden.

Blue L-shaped Plywood Kitchen

Uncommon Projects designed the kitchen layout around the hob, which is placed centrally on a large peninsula, allowing the owners to work away, but still feel connected to the dining table and garden.

The clients wanted a kitchen that was easy to keep tidy, therefore a pocket door pantry cupboard was incorporated into the tall units alongside the ovens, a great way of having the coffee machine and toaster out of sight but ready for action. On the far wall a standalone fridge freezer is framed by tall pull out larder storage. A second pantry cupboard (full of baking paraphernalia) and an open mirror backed bar with glass shelves completes this wall.

To bring some atmosphere to the kitchen in the evening, Uncommon Projects added integrated back lighting to the bar area and behind the reeded glass sliding doors in the wall cupboard.

A couple of steps up from the kitchen, Uncommon Projects created an integrated desk area, which makes an ideal spot for the client to work from home or the kids to do their homework. The orange linoleum finish on the desktop contrasts brilliantly with the teal cabinet doors. All cabinets are finished in oak veneer.
